5 Things Crossdressers Commonly Waste Money On
By Jenn der Bentson
Crossdressing is a journey of self-expression that allows individuals to embrace their authentic selves. While there is a wide range of products and accessories available, it’s essential to differentiate between essential items and potential wasteful expenditures. It can be hard some times, to stop impulse from taking over and making a purchase. I have been there, and made the impulse purchases.
Many have ended up just in the garbage or stuffed in a box or drawer to never actually be used, perhaps more than when the were first acquired.
With that in mind, let’s talk about a few common things our fellow crossdressers “waste” money on and perhaps a strategy or two to help avoid doing so to optimize a budget and make informed choices that enhance the crossdressing experience.
Impulsive Clothing Purchases
Crossdressers often fall into the trap of making impulsive clothing purchases without careful consideration. Picking something on an online website or email advertisement thinking you will look like the model wearing it can be disappointing later. It’s important to focus on versatile wardrobe staples that can be mixed and matched for various looks. Instead of succumbing to fleeting trends, invest in quality pieces that are durable and well-fitting. Pick things that actually work with your body, the rest of your wardrobe, and fit your style, not an imaginary illusion you might be trying to portray.
Overpriced Brand-Name Accessories
While brand-name accessories may seem appealing, they often come with inflated price tags. Crossdressers can save money by seeking out alternative options that offer comparable quality and style. Consider exploring lesser-known brands or independent designers who offer unique and affordable alternatives. For many of us, especially those of us that do not go out in public and don’t wear the clothing much of the time, spending the extra money on something that is a brand name becomes a waste of budget.
Sometimes, products can be tempting but not fulfilling also.
Excessive Makeup and Beauty Products
The temptation to accumulate a wide range of makeup and beauty products can lead to unnecessary expenses. Instead of buying every new release, focus on building a versatile makeup collection with essential items. Prioritize quality over quantity, and take the time to learn different techniques to maximize the use of existing products. Learn what works for your face and keep your purchases to product that complement it. Spend more time learning to properly use makeup instead of buying more makeup.
Duplicate Wig Purchases
Wigs are an important aspect of crossdressing, allowing for versatile hairstyling options. However, purchasing multiple wigs that serve the same purpose can be wasteful. Invest in a primary wig that is high quality and you can keep looking good. It can be easy to spend more money on multiple cheaper wigs, of which none of them will really look as good as they did on the online display, than it is to buy a more quality wig of which you can take good care and style properly. Sure, it is tempting to have a few different wigs for “different you’s”, but if you are going to do that, buy carefully. I know many of us have tossed aside too many cheap online retailer wigs that never really delivered what we were hoping for on their look.
Poor-Quality Breast Prostheses
If there is one thing I am going to tell you to splurge on, it is to start with a good high-quality breast protheses option. Find some good breast forms and just bite the bullet. Too many cheap ones on online retailers will have plasticky edges, won’t have correct weight or sizing, don’t more naturally, or don’t self-adhere to your own chest (if that is something you want).
Investing in low-quality or ill-fitting breast prostheses can be a waste of money. I will attest to it, I have done it. I tried too many cheaper or mid-range breast forms that slip into a bra or are worn and never really found myself happy with them. When I finally just spent the money on something more expensive, I found I like the feel of them much better and they became my go-to-set of forms. The others all sat in a box, until I finally just tossed them.
You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars here, but digging for a couple of reputable crossdressing retailers online and looking for high quality products is worth the effort. Prioritize comfort, realism, and durability when choosing breast forms. Research reputable brands and read reviews to ensure a satisfactory investment that will provide the desired aesthetic and confidence. They are out there. Avoid the temptation to buy the under $100 junk that pervades some of the online retailers if you want something that is going to deliver and last for a while.
Hopefully these few little tips can help you make more informed, and conscious decisions in your crossdressing expenditures. Take it from someone who has made all these mistakes already, I could have done better. Through a little thoughtful planning and informed decisions, crossdressers can avoid wasting some money in the long run while embracing their authentic selves without compromising their sense of style or wasting valuable resources. Good luck as you continue on your journey!
